"No Smoke" is a unique software program for Windows that covers the entire range of tobacco-related issues for schools and individuals. Released in March 1996, versions of No Smoke have been sold to individuals and institutions in 48 American states, 6 Canadian provinces, and internationally to countries as diverse as Costa Rica, Slovenia, Australia, Japan, Sweden, Germany and the United Arab Emirates.
"No Smoke" can be used by adults to act as a focus for their efforts to quit smoking and to remain non-smokers for life. With its several video game sections like "Smoke Zappers" and Excuse Blaster," the program provides essential involvement to allow the user to overcome emotional barriers to quitting. The same materials that can help an adult quit can help a young person not to start. Both young people and adults, for example, can enjoy destroying the tobacco factory, zapping advertising programming messages, etc. In addition, "No Smoke" includes dozens of techniques to quit smoking, including advice on how to do without cigarettes and still not gain weight. A unique section, important for users of all ages, allows the user to compute just how much money he or she spends a on cigarettes on annual, five year and ten year scales.
"No Smoke" was developed by Elliot Essman, a writer and software developer who works
with young people. Elliot's book, Building Yourself: Putting
Your Success Together One Piece at a Time is also geared toward young people
and has been licensed in high schools for classroom use.
Schools and other institutions may purchase multi-user licenses for "No Smoke" for
reduced prices. Base cost is $10 per computer, subject to a $100 minimum. This price
includes adding your school's name and art work (seal, coat of arms or mascot) if you
provide the image to us on disk or if we can find a ready substitute. Additional
customization of the program is also available to suit individual school or classroom
needs. No Smoke is now available FREE for individual use, or for organizations
wishing to evaluate the program.
